That first weekend at camp was scary because I didn't know anyone and honestly I didn't feel like I made much of an impact in that first weekend. When I left, I foolishly thought that I fulfilled my mission to God. It was funny to me when Lighthouse called me the next month looking for a volunteer for the weekend retreat and I said yes. This started a turning point in my walk with Christ. As I spend more time at camp getting to know the girls and the other counselors a couple things took place. (1) I could feel the Holy Spirit working in my life growing my love for Christ and His Word (2) I was enjoying myself at weekend retreats and summer camp. This was fun spending time with the girls. It was always a spiritual retreat for me. My desire to learn more about God in order to teach the girls more about their Lord and Savior was a revolutionary experience. Camp developed so many skills in my life that God has been able to use in other areas of my life 1. teaching children at church 2. being bold at work 3. patience and love for others.
I believe that my participation as a camp volunteer was in direct obedience to Jesus Christ. Looking back I can see how God used this time to save my life when I was drifting away from Him. I was a lukewarm Christian. I believe that direct obedience to Christ also shows how great your impact to others can be if you follow the Lord's direction and allow Him to use you for His purpose.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to be a camp counselor and mentor at Lighthouse Christian Camp for two years now. I am a college junior at Middle Tennessee State University and serve at my on-campus outreach called the Baptist Collegiate Ministries. It was during a weekly gathering there that I first learned about Lighthouse from Miss Sarah. The Lord had put on my heart to do a summer mission and my BCM was trying hard to connect me with programs and camps to serve at but nothing really clicked or I felt really called to. I prayed to the Father, if there is somewhere you need me this summer, put me there. Let me be your worker, send me to the fields. Just like our Father always does, He delivered. Seeing Miss Sarah so passionate about these campers and hearing more about the girls I would mentor, melted my heart and I felt the tug to call Brother Ben and get on board with Lighthouse. I wanted to be there this summer.
Being a counselor at Lighthouse has been the most rewarding experience for me thus far. My relationship with Christ has deepened, my thirst for more knowledge of His heart has grown. My passion for young girls to not only know Christ but seek him fervently is something I didn’t even know I had until I served there. To have the privilege of being a part of some of these girl’s journeys as they give their lives to Christ, is truly breathtaking. These girls live in environments that some of us could only imagine; but I have witnessed these girls realize their situation, as terrible and dark as it is, and still smile just as brightly talking of Jesus and just how wonderful He is. My love for these girls continues to grow and I love being a part of their lives and help them along their walks with Christ. I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to serve with such wonderful staff members who keep you accountable, give wonderful encouragements, and lifelong friendship. To any and all, I encourage you to spend time with these kids, humble yourself before Christ and let all the children come to Him.

Being at Lighthouse Christian Camp with the culmination of the Christmas party has become more and more of a draw to me as I’ve been able to come more years in a row.
I’ve seen God move mountains as far as the work crew is concerned and yet, they accomplish what they’ve set out to do and more. Then for the other half of the team, when we first get to the gym, it seems like such a huge task, but at the last-minute things come together miraculously. This can only be the Lord’s hand with continual prayer going in to the preparation as well as our “God is Good” times each evening.
I’ve enjoyed being able to spend one-on-time time this year after the Christmas party with girls waiting to be picked up. They are so sweet & I love to give them some individual attention. I pray after they leave that they will be able to see God’s light shining.
